Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted Houthi ballistic missile targeting southern region - The Express Tribune
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence announced that a security threat had passed in the southern Jazan region following an alert issued through the National Early Warning Platform, amid escalating tensions with Yemen’s Houthi group.
In a statement on US social media company X, the Civil Defence urged residents to continue following safety instructions and avoid gatherings and filming.
The agency did not specify the nature of the threat or report any casualties or damage.
The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government said on Monday that its air defences intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi group toward Saudi Arabia’s southern region.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki announced the interception in a statement, without providing further details about the missile’s intended target or possible casualties.

The incident comes amid escalating cross-border attacks by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia.
In recent days, the coalition has reported intercepting several ballistic missiles targeting the capital Riyadh and eastern Saudi Arabia, as well as drones launched toward the country’s southern region.
The attacks come amid renewed fighting between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis in Yemen, where years of conflict have caused a severe humanitarian crisis.
