SB19 recognized at the Senate for historic Lollapalooza performance - GMA Network
SB19 was recognized at the Senate of the Philippines for their historic Lollapalooza performance in Chicago last July.
Senate Resolution 545 congratulates and commends the P-Pop Kings, who attended the plenary session on Monday, "in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions to the Philippine creative industries."
"We can say that they have been proving that Filipino talent is 'GENTO,'" said Senator Bam Aquino, the principal sponsor of the resolution.
"From their 'Go Up' days to the biggest stages in the world, their "MAPA" heading here was not an easy one. It was years of hard work, sacrifices, and faith in their own sound that brought them from dreamers to one of the faces of P-Pop on the international stage. And at Lollapalooza, they made it come true," Aquino added.
Aquino said that SB19's story did not stop at Lollapalooza, as they also performed at Summer Sonic in Japan soon after.
He also cited SB19's other achievements. Their song "Bazinga!" reached number one on Billboard's Hot Trending Songs chart and held the top spot for seven consecutive weeks, while "DAM" debuted on the Billboard World Digital Sales Chart, making SB19 the first Filipino act to top the latter.
"Mister President, it's important to recognize these achievements because every time a Filipino artist steps onto the global stage, they open that stage wider for every Filipino who dreams of doing the same," Aquino said.
Aquino added that SB19's success is also proof of the big potential for the Philippine creative industries, when artists are given opportunities and support.
"We don't just create entertainment. We create work, opportunities, and a stronger presence of Filipino culture to the whole world."
Aquino said that SB19's biggest contribution is bringing their Filipino identity on every stage.
He then congratulated Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin.
"From your simple beginning, you have shown how far Filipino talent can go with talent, hard work, and the will to dream," Aquino said.
Aquino said he is proposing a bill with the objective to support and grow the creative economy, done with the help of SB19 and 1Z Entertainment. He said they will continue consulting with other creatives to pass the bill in a faster time.
SB19 made history as the first Filipino act to perform at the Lollapalooza, one of the world's biggest music festivals. The group also performed at the Summer Sonic in Japan in August.
The group teased upcoming music coming out in October.
