SC refuses to extend Anant Singh's interim bail, orders him to surrender by Dec 1
In a major setback to expelled JD(U) MLA Anant Singh, the Supreme Court on Friday declined to extend his interim bail and directed him to surrender by December 1 in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj Party worker Dular Chand Yadav. The 75-year-old was killed on November 30 last year while campaigning for JSP candidate Piyush Priyadarshi in Bihar's Mokama Assembly constituency.
Singh had been granted interim bail to attend a family wedding. The court refused to extend the relief and asked him to surrender by the December 1 deadline.
A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale passed the order while hearing a plea seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Singh. The bench also directed the Bihar Police to complete the investigation into the murder case within four months.
The Supreme Court posted the matter for further hearing after four months, giving the investigating agency a timeline to conclude its probe.
Singh was arrested in the case for allegedly orchestrating the killing of Dular Chand Yadav in October last year. The Patna High Court had granted him bail in March this year.
The development comes days after the JD(U) expelled Singh and former MLA Neelam Devi for six years over alleged anti-party activities.(Developing story. It will be updated soon) - Ends About the Author
