SCOPA vows to put more pressure on Treasury to blacklist dodgy suppliers - EWN

Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) said that it will assert more pressure on the National Treasury in the coming months to blacklist suppliers who cost the state millions in corrupt practices and non-delivery of services.

As SCOPA on Wednesday took stock of its performance to date, several MPs complained that while it certainly had bark, it did not have the bite to ensure consequences for the malfeasance it’s picking up.

SCOPA Chairperson Songezo Zibi said that the committee will seek to work with Parliament’s Portfolio Committee's to ensure there is follow through on its recommendations.

SCOPA said that while there is no doubt it has been effective in keeping a watch over the public purse, it is perhaps taking on too much, and not achieving enough.
