Two people were injured and were being treated in hospital.
No deaths or missing persons were reported.
Officials said the blaze destroyed 74 structures and had been extinguished.
eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said the cause of the fire was still unknown. "Disaster management teams are currently on site providing emergency humanitarian relief. We urge all residents to remain vigilant and adhere to basic fire safety measures," Mzila said.
