South Central Railway (SCR) general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava on Monday directed officials to strengthen crowd management arrangements across major railway stations in view of the upcoming festival season, including Dasara, Deepavali and Chhath.
Reviewing preparedness measures at a meeting held at Rail Nilayam with senior railway officials, Mr. Srivastava stressed the need for heightened vigilance and effective implementation of crowd-control plans to ensure passenger safety and prevent overcrowding during the peak travel period.
He advised the deployment of dedicated ground operation teams comprising Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at major stations to manage passenger movement and address operational challenges arising from the expected surge in footfall.
The general manager also directed officials to ensure that all construction sites within Secunderabad railway station and other railway premises remain fully barricaded. Any obstructions at entry and exit points should be removed to facilitate the smooth movement of passengers, he said.
Emphasising the need for proactive planning, Mr. Srivastava instructed officials to continuously monitor passenger demand and travel patterns. Based on the assessment, additional special train services should be introduced wherever required to cater to the increased rush during the festival season, he noted.
The GM also directed railway staff to conduct regular safety drives and inspections, particularly of points and crossings, signalling systems and other safety-related equipment, to ensure safe and uninterrupted train operations, said a press release.
