Even as speculations are rife that the AIADMK and the DMK would refrain from contesting in the Ambasamudram bypoll to facilitate direct tussle between Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), chief coordinator Seeman has hinted that he would contest in this upcoming byelection.
Mr. Seeman has announced that the NTK’s byelection campaign would start with the birthday celebrations of LTTE supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran in Palayamkottai on November 26 and subsequent public meeting to be organised in Ambasamudram on the next day to mark LTTE’s “Maaveerar Dhinam” (Heroes Day).
The Ambasamduram bypoll has been necessitated with the resignation of AIADMK candidate Esakki Subaya, who joined the ruling TVK. In the last Assembly polls held this year, NTK candidate V. Sivasankaran had polled 14,906 votes while the TVK’s S. Rajagopal bagged 53,611 votes to come third in the race.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday (October 29, 2026) after appearing before a court in connection with a case pending against him, Mr. Seeman said the NTK, which had contested byelections in the past, would enter the fray in all upcoming five bypolls without waiting for the announcement of a “common candidate.”
The NTK chief attributed the victory of Mr. Vijay and the TVK to “media hype” and said the beleaguered TVK chief had arrested former Minister Anbil Poyyamozhi Mahesh and searching the properties of another former Minister K.N. Nehru in a bid to get rid of them from the Tiruchi East bypoll scene.
He criticised the State government for gifting gold rings to the babies born in government hospitals instead of equipping the hospitals with modern facilities.
