SFI Kannur district secretary taken into police custody

The police took Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Kannur district secretary Joel Thomas into custody on Friday (September 11, 2026) morning in connection with a case registered over the alleged violence during a protest in Thiruvananthapuram.
Joel was taken into custody by the Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment police from near Women’s College, Palikkunnu, Kannur.
The police have registered a case against 31 SFI leaders and activists, including charges such as attempt to murder and other non-bailable offences.
The police action took place while Joel was in Kannur for activities related to the college union election.
