SFI visits tribal schools in Maredumilli mandal, flags bad infrastructure

The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) State-level team visited schools in Maredumilli mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Sunday (September 27, 2026), as part of its “School Bachao” campaign and highlighted the lack of basic infrastructure in schools across the tribal region.
In a statement, SFI State secretary Prasanna Kumar said the team visited primary schools, ashram schools, and residential (Gurukulam) schools in the mandal and witnessed serious problems, including schools functioning without proper buildings and some operating from dilapidated buildings.
He also pointed out that ashram schools lacked ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) services, forcing students facing health problems to travel several kilometres to the area hospital for medical attention. He questioned how students could pursue their education without basic facilities.
Citing a serious situation in Vejuwada village, he said around 20 students had reportedly been attending classes under a tree for the past seven years. With the government failing to address the issue despite difficulties caused by rain and other weather conditions, the villagers collectively constructed a shed where classes are now being conducted.
Mr. Prasanna Kumar said that the absence of a properly equipped school building was indicative of the government’s neglect of tribal students. He demanded that the government provide every school in tribal areas with permanent buildings, toilets, drinking water, electricity, and other essential infrastructure. He added that students, parents, and villagers have been urging the authorities to immediately sanction and construct a new building for Vejuwada School and to provide safe temporary facilities until construction is completed.
The federation’s assistant secretary Prasad, leaders Lova Raju and Bhaskar and tribal organisation leaders Shanti Raj and Sirimalli Reddy were also present during the visit.
