Shaikh Ajmal Ahmad Afzal Gola takes charge as Kalaburagi Mayor

Shaikh Ajmal Ahmad Afzal Gola and Farhanaz (Farha Khusroo Jagirdar) assumed office as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Kalaburagi City Corporation, respectively, on Tuesday. The duo took charge at the corporation office in the afternoon as part of the 24th term of the Kalaburagi City Corporation.

Speaking after assuming office, Mayor Shaikh Ajmal Ahmad Afzal Gola said immediate steps would be taken to address pressing civic issues in the city, including drinking water shortage, the stray dog menace and waste management.

He said it was an emotional moment for him to assume the mayoral office, as his father had served as Mayor in 1991. “After nearly 35 years, I have got an opportunity to serve in the same position,” he said.

The new Mayor said several initiatives would be taken up for the overall development of the city. These included promoting rainwater harvesting, launching a campaign to plant saplings in every household, and establishing a Command and Control Centre to streamline the functioning of the corporation.

He also said that general body meetings of the corporation would be held regularly, with a focus on public-oriented issues.

Chairperson of the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation and Kalaburagi North MLA Kaneez Fatima, Legislative Council member Jagdev Guttedar, Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) chairman Praveen Patil Harawal, Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority chairman Mazhar Alam Khan, Corporation Commissioner Avinash Shinde and Kalaburagi District Congress Committee president Dr. Kiran Deshmukh were among those present on the occasion.
