Members of the Shivamogga Advocates Association staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday (November 3), condemning recent violent attacks on advocates.
The protesters raised slogans against the murders of advocates Manjunath and Sriram in Bengaluru and the attack on advocate Venkataramana Kannaki at Gowribidanur. They said advocates are an integral part of the judicial system and deserve adequate security to discharge their duties.
The advocates demanded that the State government strengthen the Advocates Protection Act and ensure that those who commit crimes against advocates are punished as per law. Advocates across the State staged similar protests demanding stronger laws to protect the profession.
Association president G.R. Raghavendra, senior advocate Basappa Gowda, office-bearers including K.P. Sripal, and others were present.
