Shivamogga MP asks BSNL officers to speed up works to enhance network connectivity

Shivamogga Member of Parliament B.Y. Raghavendra, on Wednesday, instructed the officers of BSNL in Shivamogga to speed up the construction of towers to enhance network connectivity coverage in rural areas of the district.
The MP, in a meeting with senior officials of the BSNL, discussed the measures necessary to upgrade the connectivity so that rural public get access to 4G network. Due to the patchy network, the public, particularly school children, were not getting access to online services. There had been delay in updating the data collected from the beneficiaries at the fair price shops, anganwadi centres and other public offices.
Considering the poor network connectivity, a proposal was submitted seeking 4G towers at 398 villages in Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency. Among them, 232 towers had been sanctioned. Those people in the remaining villages continued to face network issues.
Mr. Raghavendra asked officials to prioritise resolving network problems arising from geographical and hilly terrain, particularly in the Malnad and rural areas of Tirthahalli, Hosanagar, Sagar and Sorab taluks, as well as remote villages under the Byndoor Assembly constituency.
“Good mobile network facilities should reach not just urban areas, but also the common citizen in the remotest village of Malnad. Connectivity has become a basic necessity today — right from students’ education to farmers’ information needs, government services, digital payments and communication during emergencies, every sector requires network access,” Mr. Raghavendra told the officials.
The officials said a recommendation had been sent to the Centre for sanctioning new 4G BSNL towers for 14 villages lacking network facilities — six in Sorab taluk, four in Hosanagar taluk, three in Tirthahalli taluk and one in Sagar taluk — and that sanction was awaited.
Mr. Raghavendra issued strict instructions to ensure that construction of already sanctioned towers was not delayed and that all ongoing works be completed within the stipulated time frame and made available for public use. He asked officials to coordinate with the concerned departments to swiftly resolve any administrative hurdles relating to land required for tower construction, power connections, technical issues, equipment installation or permissions.
BSNL Circle (Bengaluru) Chief General Manager Sukumaran N.K., Shivamogga Circle Office General Manager Binay Kumar Sinha, Deputy GM S.B. Koppa, AGM Vijay Rooban Singh and others were present at the meeting.
