Sibiya’s internal disciplinary hearing to continue despite bail bid outcome: SAPS - EWN

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said senior cop Shadrack Sibiya’s internal disciplinary hearing will continue, whether or not he is behind bars.

Sibiya’s hearing has been set down for next Monday, as he faces internal charges of misconduct arising from the Madlanga Commission.

At the same time, the suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner is applying for bail in the Randburg Magistrates Court, where he faces sexual offence-related charges.

He’s accused of grooming a 16-year-old minor and raping an 18-year-old woman.

Sibiya, the second-highest ranking police officer in the country, was initially suspended in September last year following several misconduct allegations.

Since then, the police service has been investigating him, and a year later, the internal probe has finally been completed.
