Sibiya’s lawyers to apply for postponement of his SAPS DC - EWN

Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya’s lawyers are planning to apply for the postponement of his disciplinary hearing with the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The suspended senior cop’s legal team told the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday that they want him to focus on his bail hearing at this stage.

Sibiya is scheduled for an internal disciplinary hearing over allegations of misconduct and corruption that arose at the madlanga commission.

His lawyer, Estelle Killian, says Sibiya isn’t ready for the hearing yet.

"Pertaining to the disciplinary hearing; there is an application being prepared to seek a postponement on Monday. As far as Sibiya is concerned, he is not in a position to proceed with the hearing. In the event of the application decline, there will be an urgent application to the Labour Court for a directive."
