The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously called on the federal government to slash petroleum prices and abolish the levy on fuel, with senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon turning the debate into a pointed attack on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for remaining silent despite being part of the federal coalition. The resolution, moved by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Muhammad Owais on the private members' day, faced no opposition from the treasury benches and was passed unanimously. Backing the resolution, Sharjeel said soaring petroleum prices had placed an increasing burden on the public, arguing that the federal government was collecting more than Rs100 per litre in petroleum levy and should abolish it to provide immediate relief.
