SIU swoops on property looking for Maumela’s forfeited Bentley, but comes up empty-handed - News24
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) on Friday descended on a Midrand property in the hopes of seizing one of the luxury vehicles belonging to Tembisa Hospital tender kingpin Hangwani Morgan Maumela, but came up empty-handed.
The deputy sheriff, as well as a number of unmarked SIU vehicles, were at the property on Friday afternoon.
They left after a short while, though, after the car was not found.
In July, the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg granted the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) a final forfeiture order, allowing the State to permanently seize luxury assets worth hundreds of millions of rands linked to Maumela, who has been implicated in the widespread looting of Tembisa Hospital.
These included four Lamborghinis and a Bentley Continental GT, the latter being the vehicle News24 understands they were hoping to seize in Midrand.
The SIU was contacted for comment and said it would revert later in the day.
