Keralam Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has condemned the “vulgar and excessive” abuse on social media, saying criticism of political leaders should never descend into personal attacks on their families. He was speaking at Thalikulam on Sunday after releasing Ee Neravum Kadannupokum, the eighth book by AICC secretary T.N. Prathapan.

“Recently, a deceased journalist was subjected to cruel abuse on social media. Many posts are so offensive that they even insult women,” Satheesan said. “There is nothing wrong with criticising political workers. But social media platforms should not sink to the level of insulting women and families,” he added.

The Chief Minister also alleged that those engaging in abusive campaigns in cyberspace enjoy the backing of political parties. Revenue Minister A.P. Anilkumar presided over the function held near Mr. Prathapan’s residence at Thalikulam. District Collector Siva Surendran received the first copy of the book.
