Sophie Cunningham shows off unreal arm strength with upper-deck dart: 'Call me Mahomes'

The Indiana Fever bounced back from one of their worst performances since early July with a much-needed victory over the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday night. Led by Caitlin Clark (27 points, nine assists and seven rebounds) and Kelsey Mitchell (20 points—again), Sophie Cunningham continued to be a strong contributor for the second unit, logging 29 minutes and scoring 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

After the game, Fever fans were treated to a few giveaways, including a signed mini-ball from Cunningham. However, while the giveaway was a nice touch, it was Cunningham's rocket arm that quickly made waves. After signing the ball, the 30-year-old launched an incredible throw to the second level. And when the Fever posted the initial video, Cunningham responded by giving herself a new nickname: Patrick Mahomes.

"Call me Patrick Mahomes from here on out," Cunningham replied on X.

It's hard to deny how impressive that throw was, and Cunningham gets a tip of the cap for a great response to the video also. And it's also worth pointing out that Cunningham, in her second year with the Fever, has put together a strong all-around season, including a field goal percentage of 46.8%, nearly matching the best season of her career (2025, when she shot 46.9%). She's also knocked down three-pointers at the second-highest rate of her career, making 42.9% of her attempts.
