Speaker seeks records of MPAs' arrests, raids

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati has directed the police to submit complete records of arrests, detentions, home raids, searches and attacks involving members of the provincial assembly, ministers, advisors, special assistants and parliamentary secretaries. A formal letter has been issued by the Assembly Secretariat to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police, conveying the Speaker's directive. As custodian of the House, the Speaker has sought full information on every such incident in which any MPA, minister, advisor, special assistant to the chief minister or parliamentary secretary was arrested or taken into custody by a law-enforcement agency, or in which a raid, attack, search or similar action was conducted at their residence. Police authorities have been asked to provide detailed reports and FIRs of all incidents that occurred during the past two weeks. A list of the relevant events and individuals has been enclosed with the letter. The Secretariat has also requested records of persons who registered complaints about these incidents at the concerned police stations. The information has been sought on an urgent basis so that it can be placed before the Speaker.
