SRB recovers and defuses 20 crude, petrol bombs at old trade fair grounds

The Specialised Rapid Battalion (SRB) has recovered and defused around 20 crude and petrol bombs from the old trade fair grounds in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Squadron Leader Nifaz Rahman, second-in-command of SRB-2, said the explosives were recovered in the afternoon following a tip-off and defused around 7:30pm on Monday.

“Our bomb disposal unit scanned and defused them after recovery. There were approximately 20 of them. The exact number will be announced via a statement,” he told bdnews24.com.

Earlier, SRB-2 Commander and Additional DIG Naimul Hasan said 17 explosive devices had been recovered from beside the main road of the old trade fair grounds.

“We received information that crude bombs and petrol bombs were located beside the main road of the old trade fair grounds. A search operation there led to the discovery of 15 crude bombs and two petrol bombs lying abandoned,” he said.

Naimul said an investigation had been launched to determine who placed the explosives there and why.
