Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Saleem Ahmed and Legislative Assembly Speaker G.S. Patil are participating in the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference being held in Cape Town, South Africa. THe event began on September 13 and will go on till September 19.

During the inaugural ceremony, they presented a special brochure on Karnataka to Thoko Didiza, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of South Africa.

The brochure showcases Karnataka’s parliamentary heritage, administrative system, cultural richness and developmental achievements to international delegates attending the conference.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is leading the Indian delegation. He urged members to actively participate in the conference sessions and workshops and articulate India’s views effectively to ensure that the country’s interests and perspectives are strongly represented on the global stage.

The main theme of the conference is “Strengthening International Law and Parliamentary Democracy in a Changing World Order: Commonwealth Leadership". The deliberations will focus on the role of parliaments in responding to changes in the global order.

The agenda for six key Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference workshops for the Indian delegation was also outlined during the meeting.
