Steelers HC Mike McCarthy takes the blame for Week 1 offensive struggles - Steelers Wire

There was a lot to love in the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, but the offense, unfortunately, wasn't among those things. And offensive-minded Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy placed the blame on his own shoulders.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, McCarthy explained that when it came to calling plays or getting his offense into rhythm, he simply didn't do a good enough job in Week 1.

“I thought the play calling on offense was herky-jerky," McCarthy said. "I didn’t think I did a great job getting the players into a rhythm. At certain parts of the game, I thought we had some really good sequences, where it looked like we were getting ready to take off. But in my experience in the league, it’s unfortunately the way it goes in September."

In Week 1, the Steelers managed just one touchdown and 264 total yards of offense against a Falcons defense missing its top two edge rushers. If it wasn't for Pittsburgh's outstanding defense, the team may not have walked out of Sunday with the win.

McCarthy may not have been able to unlock the Steelers' offensive potential quite yet, but that didn't stop Aaron Rodgers from presenting the head coach with the game ball following the Week 1 victory. Don't hit the panic button quite yet. The points, the splash plays, the offensive rhythm, it'll all come in time.
