Steps are being undertaken to establish a Central forensic science lab at Thiruvananthapuram, the State government has informed the Kerala High Court.

For this, land spread over 12,000 sq ft would be made available on lease near Technopark. Till the Central lab is ready, space will be made available for the purpose at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, the government said.

This comes in the wake a petition by the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (Kelsa) about the pendency of a large number of narcotics cases due to inadequate number of forensic labs in the State. The matter has been posted for hearing on November 12.
