Storm turns Turkish Airlines landing into nightmare as passengers scream in fear

A Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Tunisia was forced to divert to another airport after severe turbulence and stormy weather turned its descent into a terrifying ordeal, with passengers screaming as the aircraft struggled to land.

The flight was approaching Tunis-Carthage International Airport on Thursday, September 10, when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence. Passenger Marina Maiskaya, who was travelling with her mother on the flight from Istanbul to Tunisia, said the plane began shaking violently during multiple attempts to land.

Maiskaya shared a video on social media showing passengers gripping their seats as the aircraft jolted, with screams heard across the cabin.

She said the journey had been smooth until the descent began. “The flight itself was smooth, but things turned absolutely terrifying as soon as we began our descent,” she wrote, adding that she had never feared for her life like that before.

According to Maiskaya, the pilot made three attempts to land at Tunis-Carthage Airport amid the storm. The aircraft was reportedly forced to circle the area before another attempt was made.

“We were shaken violently each time, and on the third attempt, we actually started to plummet,” she wrote.

The flight was eventually diverted to Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport, around 60 miles south of Tunis, because of the adverse weather conditions.

Despite the frightening turbulence and aborted landing attempts, the aircraft landed safely at the alternate airport.

“We made it through safely — perhaps thanks to the Turkish Airlines pilots,” Maiskaya wrote.
