Students urged to gain deeper understanding of biodiversity

Everyone has the responsibility to preserve the nation’s living biodiversity heritage, said Cherukuri Venkateswara Prasad, a member of the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), after inaugurating a week-long series of awareness programmes under the theme ‘Seshachalam – A Living Heritage of Biodiversity’ at Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), in Tirupati on Saturday.

The Department of Student Welfare and Cultural Affairs (DSWCA) at SVU is organising special awareness programmes on biodiversity, culture, and traditions for students, researchers, and faculty members across all degree colleges and university colleges affiliated with the university to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasad urged the students to gain a deeper understanding of biodiversity and to do their part to conserve it. SVU Vice-Chancellor Tata Narasinga Rao urged students to participate in various service-oriented activities alongside their studies and to take up the responsibility of protecting forests.
