Studs and duds from Tennessee Titans' 23-10 loss to New York Jets - Titans Wire

The New York Jets dominated every facet of the season opener and manhandled the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 action.

The Titans could get nothing going on offense, as the new Brian Daboll system was overmatched by the Jets' defense. The offensive line struggled to consistently protect quarterback Cam Ward, who couldn't settle into a flow. To make things worse, the new-look defense couldn't come up with a play when it needed it, and the Jets dominated time of possession.

Things will not get any easier for the Titans, who will face a tough Philadelphia Eagles team in Week 2 and will have a lot to work on this week.

As always in an uneven game, here are some studs and duds from the Titans' Week 1 win.

Hill made his first start, and the rookie showed up in a big way. The second-round pick out of Texas looked the part and was the best Titans defender all afternoon, leading the team in tackles with 16 (two solo).

The veteran wide receiver was invisible against the Jets. Not only did he not make a catch, but he also didn't even receive a target. Being the elder statesman of the receiving corps, Tennessee needs more from the veteran.

Harris came into the game as a bit of an unknown as the primary nickelback, and he proved that he was up to the task. The second-year corner was stout in run support and held up in coverage.

Tennessee traded for Johnson in the offseason to boost the edge, and he failed to make an impact against his former team. Johnson managed only one total tackle and made no impact as a pass rusher.

Winston is finally fully healthy, and it showed against the Jets. The second-year safety was all over the field and came in as the Titans' second-leading tackler, finishing with 10 total tackles.

Tennessee spent a lot of money to bring in Franklin-Myers and insert him in the lineup next to Jeffery Simmons, and he came up empty. After missing parts of training camp, he made his game debut and finished with only three total tackles and provided no pass rush.

Simmons finished with four total tackles and multiple pressures, but left quite a bit on the field. The defensive leader was more of a non-factor than a difference-maker, and Tennessee needs more to be successful.
