Suspected serial rapist back in police custody after 16 years on the run - EWN

A suspected serial rapist, accused of targeting at least 14 women across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, is back in police custody more than 16 years after he allegedly fled from court.

The 36-year-old man was arrested in Nongoma on Sunday in connection with a string of rape cases dating back to 2010.

Police said the suspect allegedly broke into the homes of women who were alone, before threatening them with a knife and raping them.

He was first arrested in 2010 after a rape in Mahlabathini, but was later released on bail and allegedly absconded from court.

Police said DNA evidence collected during that initial investigation has since linked him to the other cases.

At the same time, another suspected serial rapist, arrested in KZN last Thursday, is set to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police believe the 46-year-old is behind a string of attacks on at least 16 women in KwaZulu-Natal, dating back to 2014.

He was arrested following an intensive investigation that allegedly linked him to the crimes through DNA.
