Sydney boy in serious condition after shooting inside home - ABC listen - ABC News & Headlines – Australian Broadcasting Corporation

An 11-year-old boy has been shot in the face and neck inside a home in Sydney's north west. Police were called to a property in Norwest at around five o'clock after reports of a shooting. Paramedics treated the boy at the scene he's expected to be transferred to Westmead Children's Hospital in a serious condition. 

Consumer advocates are welcoming a recommendation for the triple-zero service to be taken out of the hands of telcos. A long-running Senate inquiry into problems plaguing the Triple Zero system has made 11 recommendations, including a new national authority to answer triple zero calls and mandating domestic roaming. Telstra currently operates the function but the inquiry is recommending that it should be nationalised to avoid further crises. 

And Australia's population is expected to reach almost 40 million by 2066 which is lower than previously forecast due to a falling fertility rate. The latest Intergenerational Report report, which was released today, has found an ageing population will put greater pressure on Australia's economy over the next 40 years. From 2060-61 onwards, deaths are projected to outpace births in Australia.
