In view of Deepavali falling on November 8 (Sunday), the Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday for government offices, State public sector undertakings, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions on November 9 (Monday).

According to a government order (G.O.) issued by the Public Department, the holiday has been declared to allow people to travel to their native places to celebrate Deepavali with their families.

Further, the government has announced that November 28 (Saturday) will be a working day to compensate for the holiday.

As November 9 has not been declared a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the State government has directed district Collectors to make arrangements for the functioning of treasuries and sub-treasuries with a limited number of employees.
