Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Saturday announced a hike in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees and teachers with effect from July 2026.

A State government press release said the DA for employees had been increased from 60% to 63%, following a similar increase for Central government employees from July 2026. The revised DA would apply to the Tamil Nadu government employees and teachers with effect from the same date.

A total of 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners will benefit from the increase. The hike will cost the government ₹1,858 crore a year. “This will help them celebrate Deepavali happily,” the government release added.
