The Paranur toll plaza on the Chennai - Tiruchi National Highway becomes the State’s first booth-less facility and gets multi-lane free flow (MLFF) system. The plaza became operational from Wednesday night.

Sources in the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said that vehicles with FASTag cards or exempt tags, including judges, district collectors, Members of Parliament, and Members of Legislative Assembly, will be able to zip through without any waiting time, as their tags would be scanned a little ahead of the plaza point.

Vehicles without the tags or with insufficient balance will be issued challans.

In place of the manned booths, tall gantries with RFID readers, radar scanners, audit surveillance cameras, and FASTag-automatic number plate recognition system have been installed.

The MLFF system would process vehicles faster, reducing traffic congestion and enhancing user experience.

The Paranur plaza witnesses around 46,500 vehicles a day.

The new system will be helpful, especially during the ensuing festive season that usually witnesses thousands of vehicles taking the road to the southern parts of the State.
