Discussions were held with more than 20 companies at the SEMICON India 2026 conference held in Delhi, raising the prospects of more than ₹15,000 crore in investment flowing into Karnataka, said Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil on Saturday, adding that all the necessary measures will be taken to capitalise on these opportunities.
Speaking about the outcome of the visit on Saturday, the Minister stated that while Lam Research announced an investment of ₹9,298 crore in the State, Applied Materials shared plans for an investment of ₹3,600 crore over the next 10 years. These two projects would significantly transform Karnataka’s semiconductor supply chain, chip design and semiconductor equipment manufacturing, precision engineering, and research and development capabilities, he said in a release.
Land, covering 73 acres, has been allotted to Lam Research in the Adinarayanahosahalli Industrial Area of Doddaballapura taluk. The country’s first silicon-component manufacturing facility would come up here and is expected to create more than 1,000 direct high-tech jobs, the Minister said.
The project would also mark the beginning of advanced semiconductor materials and component manufacturing in the State. The foundation stone for the facility would be laid shortly, and it is expected to commence operations within one and a half years, he explained.
Similarly, U.S.-based Applied Materials, a global leader in semiconductor materials engineering and the manufacturer of equipment required for the sector, would invest $5 billion in India by 2035. The company has chosen Bengaluru to expand its long-term operations and would invest ₹3,600 crore in the State over the next 10 years. For this purpose, 140 acres are being allotted to the company at the Bengaluru Signature Business Park. The project is also expected to create more than 1,000 high-quality jobs, Mr. Patil noted.
The investment would benefit Indian suppliers, engineering companies, technology partners, research institutions, and semiconductor talent. The foundation-laying ceremony for the Applied Materials manufacturing facility would also be held in the next few months, he said.
During the two-day SEMICON India conference, the Minister said he had urged companies including Nexperia of the Netherlands, Japan’s Tokyo Electron and Fujifilm, Syrma SGS, AT&S, CG Semi and Ericsson, among others, to invest in the State and commence manufacturing activities here, the release stated.
