A total of 155 Tasmac outlets in Namakkal and many outlets in Salem downed shutters on Monday (November 2, 2026), in protest against the implementation of new Environmental and Social Welfare Cess.
Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, three customers went to an outlet at Pillur near Paramathi Velur, returned the empty liquor bottles and demanded money. Due to server issues, the bottles could not be scanned and it resulted in a quarrel between the customers and the salesman, Purusothaman (46). During the quarrel, the three men hit Purusothaman with a bottle and he sustained injuries. He was admitted to Paramathi Velur Government Hospital.
Similarly, customers attacked another salesman, Marimuthu, at Nallar outlet and damaged his two-wheeler.
In Salem district, acting on complaints that Tasmac workers were collecting excess money for bottles, the officials checked an outlet at Venkatappa Chetty Street at Pal Market on Sunday evening. They found the allegations to be true. Following this, the outlet salesmen Senthil, Pachaperumal, and supervisor Govindan were placed under suspension.
