In a significant move, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) is all set to bring the recyclable waste generated at Sabarimala under a regulated collection and disposal system from the coming pilgrimage season.
The move will end the existing practice of auctioning plastic, metal, bottles and other scrap generated at Sannidhanam and Pampa. The TDB has tied up with the Clean Kerala Company to handle waste removal from Sabarimala and Pampa, with the proceeds from recyclable materials set to flow into the Board’s funds.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed at the TDB headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of Board president K Jayakumar. TDB Devaswom Commissioner B Sunil Kumar and Clean Kerala Company managing director G. K. Suresh Kumar signed the agreement. The waste-removal works will begin shortly.
The TDB has also decided to entrust the collection and disposal of discarded metal articles and metal scrap at Sabarimala and Pampa to the Clean Kerala Company. An agreement in this regard will be signed on October 5.
