Teachers’ body seeks increase in rice allocation under mid-day meal scheme in Andhra Pradesh

Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Primary Teachers’ Association (APPTA) have urged the authorities concerned to increase the quantity of rice allocated to each student under the mid-day meal scheme.

In a letter addressed to Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao, the association’s State president, K. Prakash Rao, and general secretary M.G. Mehdi said the existing allocation of rice was inadequate.

They said the quality of rice being supplied under the scheme and preparation of meals as per an attractive menu had encouraged students to have their meals regularly. However, they said the quantity of rice currently being supplied was not sufficient for the students. “At present, 100 grams of rice is being allocated per student in primary schools and 150 grams per student in high schools,” they said.

The association leaders requested the department to review the existing allocation and increase the quantity of rice supplied to students.
