Teen charged with first-degree murder in daytime shooting of 17-year-old boy in North York - Toronto Star

The teen was killed in the Monday afternoon shooting at the intersection of Jane and Finch. 

About 100 loved ones and supporters came together for a vigil to remember a 17-year-old shooting victim on Tuesday night.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in North York earlier this week.

Officers responded to a call for a shooting near Jane Street and Finch Avenue shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Monday where they found a male victim who’d been shot. He was taken to hospital, but didn’t survive. 

The 16-year-old suspect has been charged with first-degree murder and failure to comply with a probation order, police said Thursday. 

This is Toronto’s 24th homicide of the year. 

The accused’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Additionally, the Star is unable to name the 17-year-old victim now that a youth is charged in connection with his death.

The accused made his first appearance in court Thursday afternoon via video conference, where he appeared reserved in a plain, dark shirt.

A no-contact order was issued, barring the accused from contacting three people. His next appearance is scheduled for Sept. 21 at the Ontario Court of Justice.
