Teen stabbed to death in Chattogram

A teenager has been stabbed to death in Chattogram.

Police said the incident took place on Tuesday night in Lane No. 4 of Pahartali Wireless Colony under Khulshi Police Station in the city.

The teenager, identified as Md Hridoy, was approximately 16 years old. He was a resident of the area and sold vegetables on the roadside footpath there.

Police initially suspect that the killing stemmed from extortion and a senior-junior dispute related to illegally set-up stalls along the road.

Khulshi Police chief Abdur Rahim told bdnews24.com that family members said an acquaintance came to Hridoy’s home and called him outside while he was having dinner.

“Later, his family members learned that he had been stabbed. Hridoy was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” the officer said.

Rahim said there were reports of a dispute between seniors and juniors.

“Everyone is talking about an issue involving a senior-junior dispute. We are investigating it,” he said.

Several local residents and a police officer said that a local leader of a volunteer group had arranged for numerous illegal shops to be set up along roadsides and footpaths in and around Wireless Colony. His associates allegedly collected money from shopkeepers in the name of rent.

Hridoy and his visually impaired father operated the roadside vegetable stall. A few days ago, Hridoy had an altercation with people collecting money from the stall.

On Tuesday night, Hridoy was reportedly called to the local leader’s office to resolve the dispute. He was stabbed after leaving the office on his way home.
