Teenage girl's killing trigger protests

A 16-year-old girl was killed when unidentified armed men allegedly opened fire on a vehicle near Charan Golai on the Daro-Belo Road late Saturday night. The victim was identified as Merk Memon. According to reports, she was travelling with members of her family from Thatta to Daro when five armed men allegedly opened fire on their vehicle. Merk sustained bullet wounds and died. The motives behind the killing were not immediately known. Her body was taken to the Daro Rural Health Centre, where relatives and a large number of residents gathered following the incident. The killing triggered protests in Daro, with the victim's family and residents placing her body on the road at Panchari Bridge and staging a sit-in for around two hours. Shopkeepers also closed their businesses in protest against the killing and what they described as deteriorating law and order. The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killing and their punishment according to law. DSP Sujawal Aziz Jameel Memon reached the protest site and held talks with the victim's family and local leaders. The protest was called off after police and political leaders assured the protesters that the suspects would be arrested and justice would be provided. PPP leader Abdul Latif Memon visited Sujawal Civil Hospital late at night and met the victim's family. He condemned the killing and called for a transparent investigation and immediate arrest of the suspects. He said the killing of an innocent girl was a tragic incident and urged the police to take effective measures to protect citizens' lives and property.
