A 19-year-old was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) after he was found carrying counterfeit Indian currency notes worth ₹60 lakh at Secunderabad Railway Station on October 31.

The accused was identified as Shivratan Mahiya, a resident of Kalyansar village in Bikaner district, Rajasthan. Police said he was transporting the counterfeit notes from Jaipur to Mumbai via Hyderabad. His alleged associate, Om Prakash, 25, of Jaitasar village in Bikaner district, is absconding.

The GRP and RPF teams were conducting surprise checks on platforms and trains when they intercepted Mahiya in the general coach of the Mumbai LTT Express on Platform 10 at around 1.30 p.m. He was carrying a black backpack containing 12 bundles of counterfeit ₹500 notes valued at ₹60 lakh.

According to the police, Mahiya had come into contact with Prakash a few months ago. Prakash allegedly told him that he procured counterfeit currency and transported it to Mumbai for circulation with the help of associates. Police said Prakash had previously been involved in criminal cases registered by the Rajasthan Police and had been jailed.

Mahiya, who was facing financial difficulties, allegedly approached Prakash seeking an opportunity to earn money. Prakash allegedly offered him ₹2.2 lakh to transport the counterfeit currency, which he accepted.

On October 28, Prakash allegedly handed over the backpack containing the counterfeit notes to Mahiya at Jaipur Railway Station and instructed him to first take it to Kacheguda and later to Mumbai. Mahiya travelled to Kacheguda by Mysuru SF Express and reached the station around 12.10 a.m. on October 30. After staying overnight at a lodge in Kacheguda, he proceeded to Secunderabad the next morning.

As the Konark Express was cancelled due to floods, Prakash allegedly instructed him to board the Mumbai LTT Express from Secunderabad. Mahiya boarded the train at around 1.20 p.m. on October 31 and was intercepted about 10 minutes later by the GRP and RPF Bomb Detection Squad.
