A Tel Aviv court has approved a further 90-day extension of Israel’s closure of Al Jazeera’s office and ban on its operations in the country.

Israel first banned the network in May 2024 under a law targeting foreign broadcasters accused of being a “threat to national security”. Israeli forces also raided and closed its Ramallah office in the occupied West Bank that September.

Al Jazeera condemned the initial ban, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of making “slanderous accusations” and calling Israel’s suppression of a free press “in contravention of international and humanitarian law”.
