Telangana temples decorate Ganesha idols with currency notes worth Rs 2.90 crore
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations took an extravagant turn in Telangana's Palvancha, where two Lord Ganesha idols were decked out in currency notes worth a staggering Rs 2.90 crore.
Members of the Kapu community organised special prayers and decorated their Ganesh idol with currency notes worth Rs 1.40 crore. The unusual display attracted large crowds of devotees, who gathered to catch a glimpse of the idol covered in fresh notes.
At another location in Palvancha, youth organisation Team Ekadanta went a step further, adorning its Ganesh idol with currency notes worth Rs 1.50 crore.
The organisers said they wanted to celebrate the festival on a grand scale and pooled contributions from local traders to arrange the decorations. Bankers also assisted by supplying fresh currency notes for the elaborate display, they said.
The two installations quickly became a major attraction in the area, with devotees turning up in large numbers to see the idols and their eye-catching currency-note decorations.
