Thai police cooperating with Korean content protection

(Police photo) Thailand's police force has signed an agreement of cooperation with South Korea on suppressing the copyright violation of South Korean video content.

Pol Maj Gen Thatsabhumi Jaruprat, commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD), said he signed the memorandum of understanding with Young Jin Choi, copyright policy director of South Korea, in Seoul on Sept 8. He was accompanied by Pol Col Bhuvadech Chunlalasewee, a superintendent of the ECSD.

According to Pol Maj Gen Thatsabhumi, the memorandum means that Thai and South Korean authorities will exchange information to support suppression of copyright violations against South Korean video content.

The ECSD initiated the collaboration with South Korean, US and Malaysian authorities in February in light of copyright violations being rampant in Thailand and Malaysia.

The joint work has so far resulted in the suppression of 426 pirated TV channels and more than 8,000 copyright-breaching videos on demand. Damage from the infringements has been estimated at about 900 million baht.

Three Malaysian suspects and a Thai were arrested in relation to the busts.
