The Palomar is no longer the shiny new arrival from London Town, and culinary director Mitch Orr has moved on but this smart Mediterranean diner inside Paddington’s 25hours Hotel is still well worth getting excited about.
The dishes brought over from the Soho original are as punchy as ever: smashed cucumbers drowned in cooling green tahini and hot chilli crisp, and the baklava, all rich pistachio ice-cream and syrupy filo crunch. The best thing on the menu though, is a local creation. Head chef Luke Davenport’s ras el hanout spatchcock is fragrant with Turkish pepper and piled with a hot, fruity apricot and currant salsa that London wishes it had thought of first.
Head sommelier Eleonore Wulf has put together a confident wine list of innovative and established producers, and she’ll happily pour you a taste of anything that takes your fancy. Maybe it’s worth staying the night just so you can come back for lunch.
Good to know: The upstairs rooftop bar, Monica, is lined with mint-stripe umbrellas and has views across the city skyline.
