The Paradise X review: Viewers call Nani's film roast material, his career-worst

Nani-starrer The Paradise opened in theatres amid heavy buzz and fan celebrations, but the conversation around the film shifted quickly as negative reactions began to flood X. The film, which had recorded one of the biggest advance sales of Nani's career and crossed Rs 40 crore in worldwide pre-sales before regular shows, drew large crowds on release, only for much of the online response to turn sharply critical.

Several social media users called the film disappointing and compared it unfavourably with Yash's Toxic, which had released recently. Some asked Nani to choose better scripts, while others questioned Raghav Juyal's presence in the film. At the same time, at least one fan pushed back against the criticism and wondered if the film was facing "Paid negativity".

One user wrote, "A roast material from start to end barring a promising start. Writing ragebait scenes involving violence against women isnt how you bring emotions Love-dela. Plastic film about plastic characters with some hilarious moments in between. Outrightly bad (sic)."

A second user wrote, "Film is DISAPPOINTING to the core. @NameisNani please choose good scripts like Jersey. You’re wasting your own potential (sic)."

Another user wrote, "Except for the first 15 min, the entire half was absolutely trash. Then the next half came in, and we felt Liger was such a good movie. #Nani, you’re not meant for larger movies. You’re suited for light-hearted, emotional films like Hi Nanna (sic)."

One more user posted, "Raghav Juyal Deserves National Award For His Performance In The Paradise. Bro Doesn't Know The Meaning Of Acting. How Someone Can Cast Him In a Big Movies? Such a Pathetic Performance."

Another pointed out, "#Toxic getting positive reviews after #TheParadise premiere." A separate post read, "Nani‘s career worst film . Disaster."

Not all posts were critical. A fan defended the actor, writing, "It's unbelievable Nani's the Paradise movie is getting negative reviews. Even someone said Paradise is worst than Toxic, another one said first half is good but 2nd half is intolerable. It's really a bad movie or its Paid negativity against #Nani movie ?? I have full faith on Nani and Anirudh's music, Aaya sher is my current favourite track."

Before its release, The Paradise had already set a new mark for Nani through advance ticket sales alone. Driven by global pre-sales and paid premiere shows, the action drama crossed the Rs 40-crore gross mark worldwide ahead of its first regular morning shows. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, that put it ahead of Nani's previous best opener, HIT: The Third Case, which had collected Rs 37.80 crore worldwide on Day 1. Both films had received an "A" certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification.

Directed by Srikanth Odela, The Paradise marks his second collaboration with Nani after Dasara. Set in 1980s Secunderabad, the film follows Jadal, played by Nani, as he rises against oppression and fights for his people against the backdrop of a marginalised community.
