The artifacts, with a total value of over $5 million, were seized from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and various collectors of ancient art.

Salih noted that the return of the 36 historical artifacts represents an important step toward strengthening cultural cooperation between Syria and the United States.

Syria’s historical and archaeological artifacts had been taken out of the country due to smuggling and illicit trade during the civil war that began in 2011.
