This guy is a monster: Donald Trump talks about Sundar Pichai at lunch with AI CEOs
US President Donald Trump had a busy Tuesday. Trump met some of the biggest tech leaders at the White House as he unveiled the new AI accords. After the lunch, however, the US president addressed reporters along with AI CEOs. In one such interaction, Trump went as far as calling Google CEO Sundar Pichai a monster who was not known.
While addressing reporters in the White House driveaway, Donald Trump called Sundar Pichai to talk. Trump says, “Sundar, you want to say something?” Pichai responds and says, “First of all, thanks-” But before the Google chief could finish his sentence, the US president cuts him off.
Donald Trump then goes on to give Pichai an interesting comment. "You have no idea who these people are. These are the biggest people in the world. You have no idea who they are," he adds. "This guy (Sundar Pichai) is a monster and nobody knows." A smile comes on Pichai’s face as Trump continues.
The US president added that tech leaders like Sundar Pichai were living a great life as they did not need to talk to reporters everyday. “What a great life. To be a monster and not have to go through this,” Trump says. Then, Donald Trump comes back to the Google CEO, reminding the media to remember his name. “All you have to know is Sundar. Sundar is his name,” he adds. Of course, Sundar Pichai needs no introduction in the tech world.

This was not the only interesting interaction Trump had with AI CEOs. He also took a lighthearted dig at Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. After calling Amodei beside him, Trump tells reporters, “All he (Dario Amodei) said was okay.” But as soon as he says this, Trump turns to the Anthropic CEO and tells him, “Be careful.”
The US president was likely joking about Dario Amodei’s recent comments. The Anthropic CEO has previously mentioned that AI may have real dangers, including the risk of potentially ending humanity. This has sparked concerns over the future of the AI industry. However, many – including TV show Saturday Night Live (SNL) – have also mocked Amodei for such comments.
Dario Amodei bursts into laughter alongside others after hearing Trump’s dig. Amodei then points out that he agrees with Donald Trump on the AI race. “As the president has said, you know, whoever wins AI wins. I think that's very important,” he says. These interactions happened as many of Silicon Valley’s brightest minds met Donald Trump at the White House. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia chief Jensen Huang, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, and tech trillionaire Elon Musk were some of the leaders who attended this lunch.
During the meeting, tech leaders discussed AI safety, corporate controls and the industry’s role in managing risks with Trump. The US president also unveiled a one-page AI accord for AI safety. This voluntary agreement puts multiple layers of controls around AI systems of participating companies, including independent audits and internal monitoring of models during training and deployment. The agreement, which Trump described earlier as "morally binding,” was signed with some of the world’s biggest technology companies.
This agreement comes at a time when companies like Anthropic and OpenAI had pushed for regulation around AI as debate over safety had intensified. Many AI researchers, including Anthropic’s Evan Hubinger, had previously claimed AI may end humanity soon. In the past, US President Donald Trump had rejected the idea of slowing AI development. Though the AI accord does not serve as government regulation.
