Thousands protest over Spanish housing crisis
Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Madrid over the past few days, after the forced eviction of an 87-year-old woman from her home sparked outrage across Spain.
Demonstrators - camping in the main public square of the city - have been calling for greater rights for renters.
The protests come just months after the Spanish central bank warned the country's deficit of of 750,000 homes could rise to more than one βmillion by 2028.
Spain's minority government has since announced several measures - including a β ban on evictions of vulnerable tenants until 2030 - but their full implementation hinges on approval by the fragmented lower βhouse, which is due to hold a vote later today.
