Three, including elderly couple, killed in separate accidents

Three people, including an elderly couple, were killed and a boy was injured in two separate road accidents in the district.

In the first incident, Jose Varghese, 66, of Urulanthanni, Kuttampuzha and his wife Susan, 57, were killed as the scooter they were riding collided with a private bus in Kothamangalam on Sunday (September 27, 2026).

The accident occurred around 10:30 am at Thundam junction on Vadattupara road, the Kuttampuzha police said.

As per the FIR, the two-wheeler collided head on with a private bus, which was moving towards Bhoothathankettu from Vadattupara, while negotiating a curve.

Though the couple were rushed to a private hospital in Kothamangalam, they were declared brought dead, the police said. Kuttampuzha police registered a case against the bus driver for alleged rash driving and causing death by negligence.

In the other accident, a 34-year-old man was killed and his six-year-old son injured after his two-wheeler was allegedly knocked down by a truck on Saturday (September 26, 2026) night.

Rameesh, 34, of Fort Kochi died on the spot while his son Ridan who was riding pillion sustained injuries in the accident occurred near Kuzhikkattukara Juma Masjid in Edathala. The Edathala police have registered a case over the incident.
