Today is your last working day: Read Oracle's 6 am termination email to staff
Note: Oracle has not formally acknowledged the latest round of layoffs or publicly released the termination email. The email reproduced below is the notification received by employees affected in the September 14 round, as reported by Business Insider, and corroborated by multiple media reports.
That is how the termination email sent to an unknown number of Oracle employees begins, according to the email quoted in media reports. The message goes on to say, “We are sharing some difficult news regarding your position.”
For employees beginning a regular workday, wrapping up tasks or returning to work after a break, receiving such a message could come as a sudden and unsettling shock. The email tells employees that their roles have been eliminated as part of a broader organisational change. It does not give an individual-specific reason for the termination, instead citing Oracle’s current business needs.
“After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organisational change. As a result, today is your last working day,” the email says.Employees told to expect severance details
The communication says affected employees will be eligible for a severance package, subject to the terms and conditions of Oracle’s severance plan. It also says employees will receive a separate email from DocuSign on their Oracle email address with details about their severance and termination date.
The email then moves to a list of immediate steps that affected employees need to take.
Under a section titled “Immediate Action Required”, employees are told to provide a personal email address so they can receive follow-up information, including FAQs and separation documents related to the transition.
The communication asks employees to submit their personal email address immediately. It also says that if an employee makes an error while submitting the address, they should submit a new form.Work access to be deactivated
The email also warns employees that their access to Oracle’s systems will soon be cut off. “Access to your computer, email, voicemail, and files will be deactivated soon,” it states, adding that employees will no longer be able to log into their computers.
The communication also reminds employees of Oracle’s confidentiality requirements.
It says employees are prohibited from downloading, copying or retaining Oracle confidential information, including by emailing such information to themselves.
Email ends with HR contact details. The communication ends by thanking employees for their contributions to the organisation and directing them to Oracle’s HR team for further questions.
Employees are asked to contact the HR team through the Ask HR page or the contact number provided in the email.
The reported 6 am communication comes as Oracle undertakes a wider restructuring while significantly increasing its spending on AI and cloud infrastructure. The company has not publicly confirmed how many employees are affected by this latest round of cuts.Read the full Oracle termination email here
