Toronto police identify woman killed in double shooting at Scarborough hospital - Toronto Star

Toronto resident Karen Swatogor, 72, was identified by Toronto police as one of two people who died from gunfire on Sept. 21.

Police investigate the scene at Providence Healthcare in Scarborough on Sept. 21 where two people were shot and killed.

Police have identified one half of the senior couple investigators say both died of gunshot wounds outside a Scarborough hospital earlier this week.

A press release Friday afternoon labelled both the man and woman as victims, who a duty officer earlier said were married, but named only the woman: Karen Swatogor, 72.

No further information was provided about the investigation.

At the scene on Monday, Duty Senior Officer Scott Shutt said it was too early to declare the deaths a murder-suicide. 

Officers were called to Providence Healthcare on Sept. 21 shortly after 12:30 p.m. for reports of two people found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Despite life-saving measures, the couple died outside the hospital.

When reporters arrived, there was a heavy police presence in the parking lot where, between two cars there was an orange tarp and an empty wheelchair. Providence Healthcare specializes in rehabilitative and palliative care.
